Design Build Maintenance and Operations Facility, Barstow CA
This design-build project involved the design and new construction of a pre-engineered metal administration, operation, and maintenance facility. This facility was built for the Victor Valley Transit Authority (VVTA) out of Barstow, CA to improve service and reduce operating inefficiencies for bus transit in the Barstow and associated unincorporated San Bernardino County area. The facility is comprised of three separated spaces: (1) 7,623-SF three high-bay bus maintenance structure, (2) 2,375-SF administration office space, and (3) 2,515-SF concrete masonry bus wash bay. In addition to the facility construction, a parking lot with ample space for current and future staff was included in the project along with four plug-in electric charging stations. The administration building was designed with the tenants in mind. We used colors derived directly from VVTA’s company logos as the color scheme for the interior of the administration space, such as a bold teal on one wall and wood accent paneling on another to emphasize the modern aesthetic. The building includes a lobby, office and meeting spaces, restrooms and a locker room, a gym, a quiet area, and a break room with a full kitchen.
Work involved for this new construction included site preparation (such as clear and grubbing, grading, concrete, and asphalt paving), construction of a pre-engineered metal building, electrical support for the IT infrastructure and lighting systems, mechanical work for the installation of a mini split system HVAC and domestic water piping, ADA-compliant restroom construction with low-flow fixtures, installation of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) sensors, and security keycard locks on the doors. |
